"Sometimes it gets a bit too much." The begining of an open discussion about anxiety and depression.

-sorry for my lack of presence-
As an avid blog reader I notice that a lot of consistent bloggers will experience a time where they drop off their platform and upon returning they say life has gotten in the way. Well, life has gotten in the way and this post is going to talk about something that has been weighing on my mind and heart.

Someone I admire posted a very brave video about 9 months ago, "Sometimes it gets a bit too much", about the pressure anxiety, her job and life in general puts on her. Zoe Sugg (Zoella) is a YouTuber with over 7 million subscribers, an author, a world traveler, one of the happiest people on the internet, and she has dealt with major anxiety and panic attacks for 10+ years. Through her blog, Q&A videos, and daily vlogs, Zoe has become very open with her subscribers about how anxiety affects her life every moment. She uses her platform to educate and support her viewers who suffer with anxiety/depression.

Zoe has received positive responses from viewers who are suffering with anxiety or depression. She has helped so many people who didn't realize that what they deal with every day is a disease.  Many people who thought that there is just something wrong with them. She has humanized the fact that anyone, at any age, can suffer from a mental disorder. She has become a major contributing factor of deleting the stigma that comes with the discussion of anxiety and depression. Especially for teens on the Internet. But it makes me wonder why others don't use their platform to discuss this huge part of life.

While I never remember learning much about anxiety and depression in my life through high school, I experienced it through many people I met in college. Now more than ever it has become a prevalent part of my life. So just like any other disease I turned to the internet to provide more information on dealing with anxiety/depression as well as helping those close to you who have anxiety/depression. Many people, like Zoe, make videos on the internet talking about their struggles and those videos have made an amazing impact on our world. However, I feel like it is just as important for those suffering with anxiety/depression to be able to talk about it to people who are in their life every day.

So, even though my impact on the Internet is not very large, I think there are issues at hand nobody wants to talk about. And I want to talk about them.

I want to start an open discussion about anxiety and depression in our world. I am not a professional, but I am trying to learn as much as I can about anxiety and depression. I encourage you to educate yourself and to make the effort to start a discussion with family or close friends. It's will be awkward and uncomfortable, trust me. You may be surprised with what you learn. Just remember no matter how uncomfortable the discussion may be at first the fact is: your life, or your friend’s life or your family member’s life is so much more important than the few awkward moments when you first mention your or their struggle with anxiety/depression.

I would really like for my generation to be the generation that ends the stigma of anxiety/panic attacks/depression. We have the power and ability to support each other.

I hope to have a much larger impact on this issue through my life but right now, I want one person to consider starting a discussion with someone they love. It is important to me. It is important to you. It may be more important to them.
Much love.
